Module 1: Cashroom Accounting and Administration Course:Â Duration: 10 weeks + exam
Aims
- To become familiar with the rules set out in the Law Society of Scotland Practice Rules 2011
- To develop a solid working knowledge of cashroom accounting requirements
- To apply accounts rules confidently in a practical working environment
- To understand VAT rules and banking practices as they apply to legal practices
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this module, students will be able to interpret and apply the Accounts Rules, including Money Laundering Regulations, to everyday cashroom operations. Learners will gain a practical understanding of accounting principles, VAT, banking processes, and the administrative systems required to run an efficient, compliant, and well‑managed legal cashroom.
Module 2: Executry Procedures Course: Duration: 12 weeks + exam
Aims
- To provide a thorough working knowledge of executry procedures for both testate and intestate estates
- To develop understanding of procedures relating to prior rights and legal rights
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the module, students will be able to confidently administer straightforward executries, whether testate or intestate. Learners will understand the key stages, documentation, and timescales involved, and will be able to recognise when matters should be referred to a line manager for further advice.
Module 3: Feeing Course: Duration: 6 weeks + exam
Aims
- To understand the purpose and principles of feeing
- To recognise the importance of well‑maintained client files
- To understand Terms of Business letters
- To apply the rules set by the Law Society of Scotland in relation to charging fees
- To develop the ability to fee a file accurately
Learning Outcomes
On completion, students will be able to calculate fees based on a properly maintained file at the correct rate and identify missing or incomplete information that may affect billing accuracy.
