Understand what happens when a membership application includes a professional referrer and how the confirmation step works.

Referrer Confirmation

What this is for

Some membership applications ask for a professional referrer.

If a referrer is provided:

  • the applicant’s order stores the referrer details
  • the referrer may receive an email asking them to confirm the recommendation
  • the referrer can open the confirmation link and submit the requested details

For applicants

If you add a referrer, make sure:

  • their name is correct
  • their email address is correct
  • they know you may be using them as a professional referrer

If the email address is wrong, the referrer may never receive the confirmation request.

For referrers

If you receive a referrer confirmation email, you should:

  1. Open the confirmation link.
  2. Review the applicant details.
  3. Confirm or decline as appropriate.
  4. Add any supporting comments if the form asks for them.

Good to know

  • the referrer does not need to be a SOLAS member to complete the confirmation
  • the confirmation is part of the membership application process, not a separate membership journey
  • SOLAS may still review the application after the referrer has responded
